January 28, 2026 -
We have had a lot of inquiries about how to proceed with the Middle School Basketball Postseason with school closures due to weather. At this point, district tournaments are the only event that may be behind schedule, and district tournaments are not mandatory. Class A and AA region semifinals are scheduled to take place on Monday, Feb. 2, with Class AAA region semifinals scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 5. Brackets are being updated as we receive qualifying teams here: https://tssaasports.com/middle...
Please be reminded of the following Weather Policy that was posted at the beginning of the school year:
In the event school closings from weather prevent the entire district tournament from being completed by the deadline, districts can choose to have teams play more than one game in a day. If that is not possible, then only the top 4 teams from the below seeding criteria will continue to participate in order to determine which teams advance to the region. If the tournament is not able to be held at all, the below seeding criteria will be used to advance teams:
Seeding criteria:
1-winning percentage against schools in the district
2-winning percentage against schools in the same classification
3-overall winning percentage
With that in mind, it is acceptable for Class A and AA regions to agree to move the region semifinal games to Tuesday or Wednesday to allow district tournaments more time to be completed. However, keep in mind that more bad weather might be coming, so we do not encourage you to change the entire schedule for the region at this time. We would recommend pushing games one day at a time instead of postponing everything. You should work to get districts in as soon as possible before deciding to change the region or section schedule. If you make changes to the region schedule, please let us know by emailing Lamar Lee at llee@tssaa.org. Please also let Lamar know which district teams have advanced to regions.
As a last resort, if both sections agree, we will allow the section final to be played on Monday, February 9th, but no later. The state tournament will proceed as scheduled on Friday, February 13th-Saturday, February 14th in Rutherford County, with the winner of each sectional final advancing.
