The TMSAA has added girls' volleyball to its growing list of championship sports, playing the first-ever middle school state championship in the sport at Legacy Courts in Franklin on October 5th and 6th. Eight teams in Class A and eight teams in Class AA advanced from sectionals held around the state to participate in a day of pool play on Thursday. From pool play, teams were ranked and placed in brackets on Friday to compete for 1st through 5th places.

In the Class A place matches, West Greene Middle School defeated Charlotte Middle School in 2 sets (25-21, 25-19) to win the state championship trophy. Sale Creek Middle School earned 3rd place honors with a 2-1 victory over Unicoi Co. Middle School, and Unity Middle School claimed 5th place, beating Lake City Middle in 2 sets.

Grassland Middle School bested Brentwood Middle School 2-0 (25-17, 25-18) for 1st place in Class AA bracket play. Ross N. Robinson Middle School won the 3rd place trophy, defeating Greeneville Middle School in 2 sets. 5th place was awarded to Riverdale Elementary School following a 2-0 victory over Richview Middle School.
